Nokia, a significant player in Finnish telecoms, wants to build 4G networks on the moon. Yep. a moon. By making the natural satellite of the Earth accessible to the internet, the business intends to boost lunar exploration.

4g on Moon

Luis Maestro Ruiz De Temino, the principal engineer at Nokia, told reporters earlier this month at the Mobile World Congress trade exhibition in Barcelona that preparations are underway to deploy the network aboard a SpaceX rocket in the coming months. The manufacturer claims that a solar-powered rover and an antenna-equipped base station stowed in the Nova-C lunar lander, created by the American space business Intuitive Machines, will power the network on the moon.

The lander and the rover will establish an LTE connection once they are on the ground. On the Shackleton crater, which is located on the moon's southern limb, the infrastructure will touch down. The Artemis 1 project, which seeks to send the first human astronauts to walk on the moon's surface since 1972, will utilise the network.
