Bollywood celebs supporting social causes: While Bollywood industry is often connected with glitz, glamor, controversy and a loads of money, the public through their specs do not normally expect them to engage in social causes. While Mumbai is the hub of cinema and the opposite part of the same town is dealing with poverty. it is obvious that the criticism for those earning in loads and not utilizing the same for those in need rises without knowing the reality. While many remain to keep quiet, some Bollywood celebs have broken these stereotypes. Although they are not as hyped as a few of them, their social welfare campaigns and organizations are constantly transforming lives not only in the sector of poverty but all other aspects such as Mental Illness, animal lives, racism etc which are often ignored by the society.

Gul Panag

'The Col. Shamsher Singh Foundation'  run by the actress focuses t o raise awareness about the current threat of female foeticide and drug addiction. She  also looks for autism rehabilitation and  promoting equal trade opportunities for impoverished farmers.



Amir Khan and Kirran Rao

The two founded the 'Paani Foundation,' which aims to rid Maharashtra of droughts that have tormented locals for decades. Amir was also a member of the 'Narmada bachao andolan'.

Rahul Bose

Rahul founded his non-profit organisation,  in 2007 for the purpose of combating sexual abuse and increasing education and awareness. It has aided in the education of youngsters from the most distant parts of Kashmir to Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He's also a supporter of Oxfam (one of the foremost international NGOs working in practically every area of human development in over 100 countries)



Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt founded Coexist, a platform that raises awareness of and strives to address animal and environmental welfare issues. In an interview she said “'I believe that each one of us has a personal responsibility to our planet. And since animals, plants, oceans have no voice of their own, we should speak up for them as well. Coexist is a program I’ve set up with a vision that man lives in harmony with animals and nature.'


Deepika Padukone

Mental Illness is something which is still not taken as a serious illness in our country while it is actually real. Deepika in 2014 fearlessly came out and spoke about dealing with the same risking her career. She continued to spend time learning more about depression, and she was surprised by the no. of people who are facing similar challenges. That's how she came up with the idea for the Live Love Laugh Foundation in 2015. Its goal is to raise mental health awareness and eliminate the stigma associated with it.



Nandita Das

The desperate need of getting a fairer skin is the major concern of the country. Part of it is to be blamed for the advertisement industry who constantly focused on providing white and bright skin until a law passed restricting them. Nandita Das,  is the face of Women of Worth's 'Dark is Beautiful' campaign. The goal of the campaign was to raise concerns about the harmful impacts of skin color bias.Nandita Das is a member of India's Got Colour, a campaign that uses educational seminars, counseling, and the media to combat skin colour prejudice in India.

Milind Soman

Milind Soman is a member of the 'Pinkathon' movement, which he co-founded with other female activists. The organisation organises marathons for women, with a focus on raising breast cancer awareness.
