AFCAT AFSB Interview Preparation Tips:

There are three branches of the National Defence Academy (NDA) which are: the Indian Armed Forces, Indian Naval Academy, and Indian Air Force. The Indian Air Force to admit candidates into Indian Air Force conducts an entrance exam known as the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). While this AFCAT Exam is further divided into 3 stages which includes the first stage as an Online written test, the second stage is the AFSB interview and the final stage in the selection process of the AFCAT exam is the medical screening test.

And in this article, we will walk through different stages of the AFSB Interview and how to prepare for the same.

The AFCAT AFSB Interview which is also known as Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) Interview, is a common interview conducted by the Indian Air Force for the candidates who have successfully managed to clear the AFCAT written exam.

The main motive to conduct the AFCAT AFSB exam is to test the mental and physical strength of the candidates, which helps in deciding whether a particular candidate is suitable to further join the Indian Air Force or not. The AFSB Interview is further divided into many group tasks and Psychological tests.

Stage 2 of the AFSB Interview witnesses activities such as the Psychological test. The candidates who successfully clear the Day 1 activities namely- OIR and PPDT tests appear for the psychological test which is conducted on Day 2 of the AFCAT AFSB interview.

The AFSB Psychological test is further divided into 4 different tests which are: Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and the Self Description Test (SD).

  • Thematic Apperception Test (TAT):

TAT consists of an activity where the candidates are shown some puzzling pictures and are asked then to write a story involving a protagonist, based on the images shown. The candidates must be very careful while threading a story as the same will be used to analyse them for further stages of the AFCAT AFSB Interview.

  • Word Association Test (WAT):

The WAT test aims to assess the candidate’s individual ideas and attributes. The candidates appearing for the test are shown a word of which they are required to frame a sentence using the word within the prescribed time. The sentences framed by the candidates will reflect their mental state.

  • Situation Reaction Test (SRT):

The Situation Reaction Test is another test involved in the AFCAT AFSB Interview where the candidates are given some real-life situations and are asked to react to those situations in their own individual way so as to analyse their mental/thinking ability and psychological capacity.

  • Self- Description Test (SD):

SD is the last series involved in the Psychological test series of the AFCAT AFSB Interview. The SD test required the candidates to write 5 different paragraphs about their individual perception of their parents, teachers, employers, classmates, friends and on their own including their strengths and weaknesses. The candidates are also required to be careful while answering this test as they are analysed deeply based on this test.

The candidates who manage to clear all these tasks from the psychological test are further promoted to the next stage of the AFCAT AFSB Interview.
