Tech company Google has finally paid a fine of Rs 1,337.76 crore to the Competition Regulator of India (CCI). The CCI had imposed this fine in the Android case. This is the first time that a big tech company has paid a fine to an Indian regulator. The Government of India is enacting a new Digital India Act, for violating which the Competition Commission had imposed this heavy fine against Google.
Quoting news agency IANS, CNBC TV 18 has told that Google has deposited the entire fine amount in the account of Consolidated Fund of India. The company had appealed against this in the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), where NCLAT has paid the fine within 30 days after losing. In October 2022, the Indian market regulator fined Google for allegations of influencing the Android market. Google had told in the beginning of 2023 that it will follow the rules in Android matters as per the instructions of CCI.
