Baba Siddique Biography: Baba Siddique was a veteran politician from Mumbai who just joined Ajit Pawar's NCP after a long career with the Indian National Congress. Throughout his political career, he held various crucial positions in both the Maharashtra government and the Mumbai Youth Congress. Baba Siddique died tragically on Saturday after being shot many times by unidentified people, according to Mumbai police. The attack occurred near the office of his son, Zeeshan Siddiqui, in Bandra East. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital with serious gunshot wounds in his chest and abdomen. On September 13, 1958, Baba Siddique was born Ziauddin Siddique to Abdul Rahim Siddique and Razia Siddique. In the late 1970s, he joined the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress (INC), to begin his political career. He progressed through the ranks, eventually becoming the General Secretary and then President of the Bandra Youth Congress in the 1980s. He was elected as a Municipal Councillor in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation in 1992, and he served there for two consecutive terms till 1997.
Baba Siddique was elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Bandra West constituency, which he held for three consecutive terms from 1999 to 2014. From 2004 until 2008, he was Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, Labour, FDA, and Consumer Protection in the Maharashtra government.
Siddique was well-known for both his political contributions and his strong ties to Bollywood. He famously organized annual Iftar parties attended by Bollywood celebs such as Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan and even acted as a mediator in mending the two actors’ relationship.
Siddique was charged with alleged money laundering in a slum renovation fraud in 2017, but the Enforcement Directorate later cleared him. Siddique shifted political parties in 2024, from the Congress Party to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Baba Siddique was married to Shehzeen Siddique. They have a daughter Arshia Siddique and a son Zeeshan Siddique.
According to his 2014 election affidavit, Baba Siddique listed assets of Rs 76 Cr. His declared net worth has expanded dramatically over time, with assets valued at Rs 25 Cr in 2009 and Rs 12 Cr in 2004.
