Water Crisis: According to Reuters, the country’s main water bodies have been at a low level of water for five years this month, which directly affects drinking water and power production. In Bangalore, the city was once surrounded by 285 lakes and today, the city of lakes is facing a major water crisis.
The water capacity of the main reservoir has decreased by 16%. Also, as the summer season is around the corner, the situation can elevate to even worse conditions. In the month of April and May, due to the increase in heat waves in Central and Southern India, the water level is expected to reach the lowest. Last year, due to less rain in the monsoon season, the crisis further deteriorated, directly affecting the country’s hydropower generation. From the beginning of the current financial year (April 2023), in the last 10 months, the hydropower generation has decreased by 17%.
