Menstruation has been considered taboo since its inception, and Bharti Singh is working on an initiative to break all societal taboos concerning women. Bharti Singh Chauhan is a well-known social activist and entrepreneur who founded and chairs Praveen Lata Sansthan, an NGO based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, that works to empower underprivileged girls and women across the state by providing community-based solutions in education, health, safety, and sustainable livelihoods.
Bharti Singh has been honoured with numerous national and international awards. In 2016, the Women and Child Welfare Department at Rashtrapati Bhavan honoured her as one of India's 100 most accomplished women. She was also named an exceptional woman in South Asia by Facebook and the University of California at San Francisco, as well as by the University of California, Berkeley, and Facebook HQ in Silicon Valley under the ‘Tell Her Story’ program.
