In accordance with the international market, the Centre on Friday instructed edible oil associations to immediately lower the maximum retail price (MRP) of the major edible oils by Rs 8–12 per litre. Following a meeting with representatives from the sector presided over by Sanjeev Chopra, secretary of food, "some companies which have not reduced their prices and their MRP is higher than other brands have also been advised to reduce their prices," the food ministry stated. It also stated that in order to prevent any dilution of the price cut, manufacturers and refiners must immediately lower their prices to distributors.
