Bollywood on Adolescence: Netflix’s British TV series Adolescence is all the buzz at the moment. The mini-series has stirred not just the United Kingdom but also India where the show is finding unexpected applause and popularity. Stirring the conversation around the manosphere and the influence of toxic masculinity through the medium of a 13-year-old character, the series has been daring and unsettling for the viewers.

Actress Sara Ali Khan talked about her feelings towards the show, calling it “heart-wrenching”. She said, “I saw Adolescence, it was heart-wrenching. A high concept with exceptional technicalities is what works now. That child must be 13, in the third episode, it is no longer about the age. I think work like that inspires me.”
Alia Bhatt has praised the writing of the show with the performance of the young actor and the overall cast of the Netflix show.
Anurag Kashyap was among the first to applaud the show. Taking to his Instagram he wrote, “I am numb and envious and jealous that someone can go and make that. The amount of hard work that has gone into the show. I can’t even imagine the rehearsals and prep they did so that they could shoot every episode in a single shot.”
The director criticized Netflix India for not letting Indian directors make such bold shows.
Fashion designer and actress Masaba Gupta underscored the format of the film in a single shot which she described as “flawless” when talking about the show.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta was ‘devastated’ after watching the series. He elaborated that the series shook him, and made him hesitant about sending his daughter away for studies. The series also made him start a conversation with his teenage daughter about her life of kids online.
Bollywood director Karan Johar penned a heavy note on Instagram talking about the impact of the show on him as a single parent. He wrote, “Adolescence is a wake up loud call to parents who are raising children in times of social media …I am raising twins … and I thank this show for building my awareness and my responsibility quotient even more.”
Taking to her Instagram account, Janhvi Kapoor shared a story of the show’s poster calling it “brutal and heart-wrenching”.
