Budget 2024: Govt Increases STT for F&O Traders to Avoid Risky Trading

Share Market Budget 2024: Markets regulator SEBI has done a study to analyze the trends of profits and losses in intraday trading done by individuals in the equity cash segment. It was found that in the financial year 2022-23, 7 out of 10 individual intraday traders have lost in the equity cash segment. Along with this, in this segment, compared to 2018-19, in 2022-23, more than 300% of people have done intraday trading, in which the participation of people under the age of 30 years has been quite high. 

STT Increased to 0.02%

SEBI continuously brings new laws for the benefit of retail investors, so that their savings are not in danger. This time, in the Budget 2024, the government announced an increase in F&O. Looking at F&O traders, the government has increased the Security Transaction Tax (STT) by 0.01% to 0.02%, so that people do not lose their money in F&O trading. For the uninitiated, for example, whenever you buy or sell securities like shares, bonds, or equities, which are listed on a recognized stock exchange, then you get STT on it and there is a formula to calculate STT.
