Business News: India’s rebranding as “Bharat” may cost thousands of crores

05 Oct, 2023

India Vs. Bharat Debate:  Before the G20 Summit, there were several disputes over the country’s name change. Rumours are that the Narendra Modi-led administration can announce to rename India as “Bharat” at a special session of Parliament later this month. The debate began after “President of India” was written as “President of Bharat” in the G20 dinner invitation card, and it became more intensified after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name panel was shown as Bharat instead of India at the G20 Summit Day 1 conference. Talking about the rebranding, it is not as easy as it sounds. Let’s have a look at the cost of renaming India as Bharat.

Cost of Renaming India as “Bharat”

As per the reports of Outlook, if we calculate the costs of renaming a city, it may range from 200 to 500 crores. If we discuss the price for renaming a state, it could be more than Rs 500 crore. If renaming a city or state may cost several hundred crores of rupees, then renaming a nation will cost even more. Research from 2018 indicates that at the time, a name change would have cost somewhere about $60 million. If the name of our nation is changed based on the calculation used to generate this number, the cost will be roughly Rs 14 thousand crores.
