New Zealand Pm Jacinda Ardern Announces Resignation

As New Zealand's prime minister, Jacinda Ardern has suddenly revealed that she will step down because she lacks "enough in the tank" to do so. The news comes as surveys indicate her party would have a tough time winning re-election in October. 

Shubman Gill Breaks Sachin Tendulkar's Record

On Wednesday at Hyderabad, Shubman Gill made history by scoring an ODI double hundred against New Zealand in the opening game of the three-game series. He made 208 runs off just 149 balls as India chose to bat first after winning the toss. India set a lofty goal of 350 runs for the Black Caps thanks to his double century. However, no other batter could even get to fifty runs besides Gill. Rohit Sharma scored 34 to place second for India as an individual. Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Virat Kohli all performed poorly against the Kiwis. 

Gambian Vice-President Badara Alieu Joof Passes Away 

The president of Gambia, Adama Barrow, said on Wednesday that Badara Alieu Joof, the vice president, had died in India following a brief illness (January 18). The 65-year-old, who had been the Gambia's minister of education from 2017 until 2022, was elected vice president last year.
