Sachin Tendulkar has been selected as the National Icon by the Election Commission of India

To encourage more voter involvement in the political process, the Election Commission of India has named India's iconic cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as a National Icon. In the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, an agreement for three years was struck with Tendulkar. The Commission named actor Pankaj Tripathi a National Icon last year.

Justice Prakash Srivastava has been appointed as the new chairman of the National Green Tribunal

Justice Prakash Srivastava, a former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), succeeding Justice AK Goel. The National Green Tribunal was established to provide prompt and effective adjudication of environmental protection issues. It was founded in 2010, and its headquarters are in New Delhi.
