Bhavani Devi made history on Monday in the Asian Fencing Championships in Wuxi, China, by earning India's first-ever medal, a bronze. Bhavani fell short to Zaynab Dayibekova of Uzbekistan in the women's sabre semifinals 14–15, but she still gave India its first medal in the competition.Prior to that, she stunned Japan's Misaki Emura, the current world champion, 15-10 in the quarterfinals. It was her first victory over the Japanese fencer.Bhavani claimed that her goal of defeating a few top-ranked players had been accomplished, and she was especially pleased to defeat Misaki. 

 

By winning the men's shot put competition in Jakarta on Saturday with an Asian Games record throw of 20.75 metres, Tajinderpal Singh Toor gave India their fifth gold medal. He also surpassed Om Prakash Singh's 20.69m old national record. Tajinderpal, who had won silver in the same event at the 2017 Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar, began with a throw of 19.96 metres and won the gold ahead of Liu Yang of China (19.52 metres) and Ivan Ivanov of Kazakhstan (19.40 metres), who both had their best throws of the season.
