Defence News: IAF Planning to Buy Israel-Built LORA Missiles Despite Having BrahMos, Know What’s Different

11 Jul, 2025

Defence News: During the recent military conflict with Pakistan, the Indian armed forces deployed Israeli drones, which proved to be extremely effective. According to reports, the Indian Air Force is now considering purchasing air-launched long-range artillery (LORA) missiles from Israel, despite the fact that it already has its own supersonic BrahMos missile.

What is the LORA Missile?

Israel Aerospace Industries' (IAI) designed Air LORA missile can target enemy targets from 400 to 430 kilometres. This capability will allow Indian fighter planes to launch high-impact attacks from well beyond the range of enemy air defence systems. Furthermore, the missile may receive mid-course updates, allowing operators to redirect it in mid-flight, which is a considerable advantage in dynamic combat scenarios.
