Delhi Air Pollution:  Winter is getting worse for the residents of Delhi with the rising pollution during the cold temperature resulting in deteriorating health for adults and kids alike. Children are at a high risk of facing health complications in this weather, and need extra care, and a layer of protection, especially in metro cities where vehicular pollution and lack of vegetation makes it difficult to sustain.

Simple tips and lifestyle changes can go a long way toward keeping children safe. Parents must become more vigilant and stern in ensuring the well-being of their children.

Tips to keep kids safe from air pollution

Degrading air quality can impact the respiratory health of children from a young age, with high chances of chronic pulmonary diseases impacting lung and heart health. Common colds, flu, eye allergies, and breathlessness are common illnesses children suffer from, however they can also hint at deeper problems. Here are some ways in which parents can keep their children safe.

Avoid outdoors at peak hours: Children love playing outdoors. Keeping them indoors all the time can be difficult. But you can encourage them to avoid going outside in peak hours of the day like early morning and after sun sets. Plan their day accordingly to keep them engaged and entertained at home with several indoor activities and games.

Always wear a mask outside: A well-fitted mask can reduce pollutants' infiltration into children's lungs. Ensure your kids are always wearing a mask properly outside to keep them at low risk of exposure to harmful pollutants.

Air purifiers at home: A luxury as it may seem, air purifiers are becoming a necessity in households, especially in cities like Delhi. The air purifier can improve the air quality indoors, and keep the home dust free.

Purifying indoor plants: Air-purifying indoor plants are an affordable and sustainable option for purifying indoor air. They are low maintenance and improve air quality.

Activated charcoal: Another alternative to keep the home air purified and free of dust or foul smells is activated charcoal which can absorb any impurities in the air.
Plenty of water and a good diet: Water flushes out toxins and keeps your body hydrated. A good diet with immunity-boosting fruit and seasonal veggies will help them build their immunity to fight pollutants from within.

Children with prior medical conditions should consult their doctor for any changes accordingly.
