Delhi’s New CM: BJP’s verdict for the new Chief Minister of Delhi is Rekha Gupta from the Shalimar Bagh constituency. Gupta had self-elected herself for the post of CM after winning Delhi’s 2025 election with 29,595 votes against AAP’s Bandana Kumari. She becomes the fourth woman to hold the position of Delhi’s CM after her contemporary and previous CM Atishi from the Aam Aadmi Party.

Rekha Gupta Biography & Education 

Born on 19 July 1974 in Julana, Haryana, Rekha Gupta was born in a humble family with her father holding an office position at the State Bank of India. When she was just two years of age, her family moved to Delhi where she completed her primary and higher education.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Delhi. She then pursued advanced degrees in management and arts.    

Student’s President to Delhi’s CM: Her Political Journey 

Rekha Gupta’s political journey is not a tale of two days. Her spirit in public services, and passion to work for the betterment of the city, state, and country at large with a special focus on women’s empowerment. 

She turned to politics in her student years with active participation in student politics. She was elected as the President of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) in 1996-1997. Her initial years in the political area were influenced by the principles of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh. Her political journey started with the  Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Gupta is also the former mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) elected to the Delhi Councillor elections from Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2007 and reelected in 2012. 

Over the years her experience on the root level with her skills to engage with the public on a deeper level to empower them, and resolve their problems led her into several leadership roles like General Secretary of BJP Delhi and National Executive of the BJP.  

Rekha Gupta in the seat of Delhi CM reflects BJP’s aspiration to work on the youth and women empowerment of Delhi with her seasoned skills and vision, she is a beacon of changes the party has promised to the people of Delhi.
