“The Sum of It All”, a four-part docu series about Ed Sheeran’s rise to fame, has been announced. Exclusive content from the singer's personal collection, conversations with his loved ones, and private performances will be featured in the Disney+ original series. On the day of release, all four episodes of The Sum of It All, produced by Fulwell 73 Productions will be available: “Love”, “Loss”, “Focus”, and “Balance”.
The show will make its Disney+ debut worldwide on May 3. According to Variety, Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All will provide a candid insight inside the British musician, his family, and his achievement to superstardom despite having a stutter as a child. The project is a collaboration between Fulwell 73 Productions and Disney Branded Television. The series will be directed by David Soutar.
In the first episode, Ed explains how he planned his surprising success using exclusive footage from his adolescence. After being shunned by the music industry, he began to perform in odd places until, in 2010, his resolve put him in touch with media entrepreneur Jamal Edwards. They collaborated to find their audience using the growing demand for the internet. Ed reveals the narrative behind his well-known love song “Perfect” which is about his old school friend and now wife Cherry and their beautiful love story.
The second episode focuses on Ed’s close friends; with an unseen footage from his Divide Tour, the singer introduces his close-knit group of dependable buddies that keep him tethered. Then, Jamal Edwards, Ed’s closest friend, passes away unexpectedly. Ed contemplates the nature of friendship while delving deeply into his profession and using music as therapy.
While mourning the loss of his best friend, Ed keeps moving on, filming 14 music videos for his new album and fulfilling a childhood ambition by performing with Eminem at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but his wife is concerned that he is using work as a distraction. Ed publicly reveals songs from Minus for the first time in an intimate performance, gets overwhelmed by his feelings.
In the last episode, Ed travels to America to promote his tour. Ed and his wife both consider how they handle the difficulties of juggling family and career obligations while frequently separated geographically. Ed meets with friend and fellow British musician Stormzy to discuss his concerns about revealing his most private ideas into the world with Subtract.
