Father’s Day 2025: Inspiring Single Dads of Bollywood, Reshaping Single Parenthood

Father’s Day 2025: Parenting is assumed to be a two-person job by default. Society feeds the need for a mother and a father for the holistic development of a child, but many times, parenthood is different for several people. Single parenthood is a choice or the only option for some parents who want to raise a child. By choice or circumstances, single parents nurture their kids by filling the role of both father and mother.

Another default thinking that mothers are the primary nurturers alters the realities of single parenthood and makes it tougher for single fathers. But if the going gets tough, you get tougher, which has never been truer than for some of Bollywood’s single dads. 

On the occasion of Father’s Day on 15th June this year, let's honor the single fathers of Bollywood who are setting an example for others with their steps on the journey of single parenting.

Karan Johar 

Indian filmmaker Karan Johar is a proud dad of two children, Roohi and Yash, born through surrogacy in 2017. The director revealed that he wanted to be a father, and regretted not having a partner to spend his life with, so he embraced single fatherhood. He has been since sharing his adventurous journey vocally as a single parent.

Kamal Haasan   

Actor-politician Kamal Haasan is a caring and affectionate father to two daughters, Shruti Haasan and Akshara. Haasan separated from his wife, Sarika, in 2004 and has since been a towering pillar of strength to his daughters, who took up after him to work in the entertainment industry.

Tusshar Kapoor 

Bollywood actor known for films like Masti and Golmaal, Tusshar Kapoor is a single dad to a son named Laksshya Kapoor. He opted for the IVF and surrogacy method to be a father. His book ‘Bachelor Dad’ is his account of becoming a single dad through IVF, and the support and strength his friends and family lent him.
