Free Ration Scheme: 80 crore people will continue to get free ration for the next one year

A big decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting on Friday regarding giving free food grains to the poor. Now more than 80 crore people will get free food grains under the National Food Security Act. 

Officials give statement

Giving information about the decision of the cabinet, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal said that under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), about 81.5 crore beneficiaries will get free food grains by December 2023. He told that under the NFSA, the card holders will no longer have to pay anything for the grains distributed to the consumers at subsidized rates in the ration system. The central government will spend about Rs 2 lakh crore on this.

Prices of the food

Under the National Food Security Act, about 81.5 crore ration card holders of the country are given rice at the rate of Rs.3 per kg, wheat at the rate of Rs.2 per kg and coarse grains at the rate of Re.1 per kg from government ration depots. In this, food grains are distributed at the rate of five kg to each general consumer every month, while this amount of food grains to Antyodaya class consumers is seven kg per person.
