History of Galentine’s Day

We all collectively owe a thanks to actress Amy Poehler. In an episode of the hit sitcom Parks and Recreation, aired in February 2010.

Poehler’s character Leslie Knope mentions her tradition of Galentine’s Day describing it as, “It's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas”   

Soon, the word gained traction, as it offered a universal appeal to celebrate the bond and strength of female friendship in the form of an unofficial holiday.

Like every other mainstream celebration, Galentine’s Day has also turned into a commercial product, so many retailers offer sales, and merchandise inspired by famous pop culture girl friendships. 

You can add your personal touch to the celebration by either having an annual breakfast, lunch, or dinner on this day.  

Another way to celebrate Galentine’s is to go clubbing with your girl gang.
