Ganesh Chaturthi 2024: A group of 10 artisans in Surat have built a 11 foot tall lord Ganesh from neem bark for the puja on the occasion of his arrival. The marvel is a testament to a blending balance of sustainability and concern.
The tradition of eco-friendly festivals is not a new one and yet every year kilos of waste is generated during the revered festivals in India causing an irreparable damage to the mother Earth. The initiative by this Surat-based group not just echoes the need to find a harmony between sustainability and celebration but also proves that the environment has given us enough for everything. The 11 foot Ganesha is made by carving neem bark, filled with soil to provide its density and uses different types of farm gras for adornment. Built over a period of approximately 3 to 4-days, the idol weighs around 600 kg.
