His latest rap song was also praised by Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra in an X post where he penned “Now here’s Sooraj Cherukat, @Hanumankind1 @hanumankind (Insta) who’s rapping his way to global recognition. Rap may not be for everyone, but this guy from Kerala & now Bengaluru via Texas is popping eyes across to U.S for his authentic sound & his extraordinary, raw videos. Especially his latest: Big Dawgs, which features the Well of Death or, as I knew it when I was a kid: मौत का कुआँ ! Seems like there’s no form of music young Indian trail breakers can’t cross into…,"
Born in Malappuram, Kerala to an oil company worker, Cherukat’s formative years were spent in Houston, Texas. He went to Houston Community College in Texas, and pursued a degree in Business Administration from the PSG College in Coimbatore. Following his education, he landed an internship with Goldman Sachs in 2014 and also worked as an Operations Analyst in the same country for over a year, followed by a position of an Alliance & Partnership Specialist at BigCity Promotions
But a job in a multinational investment bank was not his calling, which made him quit the comfort of corporate job and pushed him to follow his passion for music and rap. He dropped his first single ‘Daily Dose’ in 2019 as a part of his debut EP ‘Kalari’.
HanuMankind’s music has been influenced by the artists he grew up listening to, which were a bunch of Southern hip hop artists including Three 6 Mafia, Project Pat, UGK, and DJ Screw. His music style is also dominantly inspired by Kendrick Lamar who is posing as a competition in the global charts. Cherukat is emerging as a popular hip hop icon to revolutionize the genre with his authentic style and rap.
