Holi Skincare Guide: Essential Tips to Rehydrate and Rejuvenate Your Skin, DIY Masks, Home Remedies, and More

Holi Skincare Tips: As the festival of colours concluded with grand festivities and celebrations, the first and foremost concern that has always bothered people is their skin. As much as we take care of not smearing colours on our faces and exposed skin, there is no fun without it. Many of us are already suffering from various skin issues that stop us from going out and playing a carefree Holi, just thinking about the after-effects of the colours. We have curated a list of essential tips and remedies that you can easily use to remove that stubborn Holi colour, rehydrating your skin with simple DIY masks and homemade face packs in just simple steps.

Post-Holi Skincare Routine

The most important thing for post-holi skincare is being gentle to your skin and prioritizing hydration and nourishment to promote healing and recovery. Here are some of the tips to follow.

Gentle Cleansing

Gently cleanse your skin with a mild, soap-free cleanser. Avoid using harsh scrubs or exfoliants, which can irritate the skin even more.

Oil Massage

Before showering, massage coconut, olive, or almond oil into your face and body. Oil loosens color pigments from the skin, making them easier to remove.

Hydration

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within. Hydration is essential for eliminating toxins and maintaining skin health.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Avoid using harsh chemical-based products or makeup removers to remove color stains, as well as alcohol-based ingredients, which may irritate already sensitive skin after using Holi colors. Choose gentle, natural ingredients instead.

Healthy Diet

Eat a well-balanced diet high in fruits, vegetables, and antioxidants to nourish your skin from within and promote healing.

Avoid Direct Sun Contact

Sun protection has been important both during and after the Holi celebrations, with a focus on protecting your skin from harmful UV rays. After coming into contact with harsh chemicals of the colors, your skin will be more sensitive and prone to damage, which is why it is important to protect your skin with sunscreen.

DIY Face Masks

Check out these simple and effective face masks that can help hydrate your skin, and repair it naturally.

Yogurt and Honey Face Mask

Combine equal parts yogurt and honey to make a soothing face mask. Apply it to your face and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. Yogurt hydrates the skin, while honey contains antibacterial properties that can help remove color stains.

Gram Flour and Turmeric Scrub

Make a paste by combining gram flour (besan) and a pinch of turmeric powder with water or rosewater. Scrub this mixture gently across your face and body to exfoliate dead skin cells and remove color stains. Turmeric also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help with irritated skin.

Aloe Vera Gel

Apply aloe vera gel to your skin to relieve irritation and hydrate dry areas. Aloe vera has cooling properties that can help relieve the redness and inflammation caused by the colors.

Milk and Turmeric Paste

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties, while milk cleans and nourishes the skin. To make a thick paste, add enough turmeric powder to raw milk. Apply the paste to your skin and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. This will help to remove stubborn stains and soothe irritated skin.

Cucumber and Rose Water

Cucumber has cooling properties, and rose water helps to tone and hydrate the skin. Blend a cucumber to extract the juice, then combine it with equal parts rose water. This toner will refresh and restore your skin’s natural pH balance. You can also store the toner in a spray bottle and apply it to your skin whenever it is irritated or dry.

Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth) Mask

Multani mitti helps to remove excess oil and impurities from the skin, whereas rose water and lemon juice brighten and refresh the complexion. Combine multani mitti, rose water, and lemon juice to make a smooth paste. Apply this mask to your face and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before removing it with lukewarm water.
