08 Jun, 2025

ITR Filing: The Income Tax Department announced on social media that ITR-1 and ITR-4 forms are now available for online filing for the fiscal year 2025-26 (assessment year 2026-27), with pre-filled data to make the procedure easier. However, taxpayers have reported technical difficulties when submitting these forms. Complaints made under the department’s tweet include issues with the form not continuing beyond the confirmation step and the system becoming stuck at the personal information portion, requiring users to refresh or return to their browser to proceed.

ITR-1 & ITR-4 Forms

ITR-1 is intended for individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), and partnership firms (excluding LLPs) having income from salary, pension, a single dwelling property, or other sources such as lottery or interest, as long as the total income does not exceed Rs 50 lakh. It also allows up to Rs 5,000 for agricultural revenue. Required documents include Form 16, Form 26AS, AIS, investment and rent receipts, and bank statements.  Individuals and HUFs who choose presumptive taxes under sections 44AD, 44ADA, or 44AE utilise ITR-4. Individuals with foreign assets, multiple house properties, company directorships, unlisted shareholdings, income beyond Rs 50 lakhs, or foreign income are not eligible for any form. Taxpayers should determine their eligibility before selecting the proper form.
