Income Tax Refund: The majority of people who file income tax returns before the deadline still don’t receive their refund. The Income Tax Department claims that one of the potential causes of why the refund hasn’t yet arrived is the non-matching of Form 26AS and Annual Information Statement (AIS). Even if the return has been confirmed, the refund may be withheld if Form 26AS and AIS do not match. The refund may be withheld if the amount entered in the taxpayer’s ITR and AIS document does not match. Additionally, the taxpayer will need to submit a revised tax return in this situation.

 

How to Apply for ITR Refund?

The Income Tax Department states that when the taxpayer confirms the ITR, it is processed by the tax officer who then verifies different assessment-year information in Form 26AS and AIS, such as transactions, income, tax due, refund, etc. Here are some important information that you should always keep in mind while applying for ITR refund:

  • Check ITR status if there is a delay in the reimbursement.

  • You won’t receive a refund if there is no e-verification.

  • Keep checking your email from time to time.

  • Verify the bank account information you provided for the return. You won’t be eligible for a refund if it doesn’t match.

  • Verify the name on the Aadhar card, PAN, and bank account.

  • Spelling errors can also affect ITR refund.
