India to Upgrade Its Naval Defence System With Another Aircraft Carrier Worth $4.8 Bn

India Vs China: India has decided to bolster its efforts to compete with China. To rival China’s navy in the Indian Ocean region, it is reported that India is prepared to add another aircraft carrier to its fleet, estimated to be worth about Rs 400 billion ($4.8 billion). Cochin Shipyard Limited constructed the first domestic carrier in India, INS Vikrant, which started its operations last year.

Second Indigenous Aircraft Carrier After INS Vikrant

The new carrier, which will be operating the French Rafale jets, is said to be able to accommodate at least 28 fighter jets and helicopters as well as move 45,000 tonnes of water. The second indigenous carrier will be approved by the Defense Acquisition Council, India’s highest defense decision-making body led by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. On the other hand, it is projected that India will spend Rs 2 trillion building 160 warships by 2030 and 175 by 2035. Currently, the Indian Navy is building over sixty ships in various stages of development. More Chinese warships are cruising the seas than ever before, raising concerns about the nation’s escalating naval strength.
