The country got its second Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) today i.e. on 30 September 2022. Retired Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan has taken over. Lt Gen Chauhan, 61, was the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Army when the Balakot Airstrike took place to avenge the Pulwama attack. Respected Army Officer Anil Chauhan After his retirement as Eastern Army Commander last year, he was serving as Military Adviser in the National Security Council Secretariat headed by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.
Now after assuming the post of CDS, Lt Gen (Ret.) Anil Chauhan said 'I am proud to hold the responsibility of the highest rank in the Indian Armed Forces. As the Chief of Defense Staff, I will try to fulfill the expectations of the three defense forces. We will face all the challenges and difficulties together. Lt Gen (Ret.) Anil Chauhan is the first retired three star rank army officer to return as a four star rank officer. After being appointed to the post of CDS, he will also serve as Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Government of India.
General Chauhan is considered an expert on China affairs and his appointment to the top post comes at a time when there is a border dispute between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh. A highly experienced and ornate officer of the Indian Army, 61-year-old Lt Gen Chouhan will also serve as Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Ministry of Defence.
General Chauhan was born on 18 May 1961 and was commissioned in the 11 Gorkha Rifles in 1981. General Chauhan was the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Army during the Balakot attack in 2019.
