Joining the Indian Defense Academy, and the Indian Air Force has been a dream of many youngsters out there. Indian Air Force is such a prestigious profession has great followership, and many students every year appear for the Indian Air Force Exam every year.

So, this Indian Air Force Day, we bring to you the ways on “How to join Indian Air Force?”

How to join Indian Air Force after Graduation:

To enter the Flying Branch of the Air Force Academy as a Graduate/Engineer, a candidate needs to follow these three modes of entry to the flying branch of the Air force:

CDSE for only Men (Combined Defence Services Examination):

This mode of Indian Air Force Entry is only for men, and they will get a Permanent Commission through the CDSE method.

The eligibility criteria for CDSE Air Force is:

Age - 20 to 24 years (at the time of commencement of course)
Nationality – Indian
Marital Status - Single
Gender for Men only.

CDSE Air Force Education Qualifications:

A candidate must be a graduate (three years course) in any discipline from a recognized University (with Physics and Maths at 10+2 level)or BE or B Tech student (four-year course).
Students in their final year f graduation can also apply, provided, they should be able to produce their Degree certificate issued by the University on the date prescribed in the advertisement.
No required Percentage bar for candidates through CDSE entry.

NCC Special Entry (For both Men and Women):

Another way to join Indian Air Force (IAF) is to apply through NCC Special Entry which is done online.

If a candidate is an Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ Certificate holder of the National Cadet Corps NCC), the candidate can apply for the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force. While a candidate whether men or women will be offered Permanent Commission posts and Short Service Commission posts through this NCC Special entry.

NCC Special Entry Eligibility Criteria for Indian Air Force (IAF):

A candidate must be aged from 20 to 24 years (at the time of commencement of course). The upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years(at the time of commencement of course).
Nationality - Indian
Marital Status - Single
Gender - Men and women

NCC Special Entry Educational Qualifications:

A candidate must have a minimum of 50% marks in each in Maths & Physics in Class 12th.
A candidate must be a Graduate (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
OR a candidate can be a BE/B. Tech. (Four Year Course) from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent
OR a candidate should have cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Final Year/semester students can also apply through the NCC Special entry, provided, they don’t have any present backlogs at the time of AFSB Testing and produce a Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date prescribed in the advertisement.
While the NCC Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ certificate and validity of the certificate would be two years before the date of advertisement.

AFCAT Entry (SSC for both Men and Women):

Another way to join Indian Air Force (IAF) is by appearing for AFCAT Exam for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Flying Branch. It must be noted that Short Service Commission in Flying Branch is for the period of 14 years, with no further extension.

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria:

A candidate must be aged from 20 to 24 years (at the time of commencement of course). The upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years(at the time of commencement of course).
Nationality - Indian
Marital Status – Single
Gender - Both Men and Women.

AFCAT Educational Qualifications for IAF:

A candidate must have a minimum of 50% marks in each in Maths & Physics in Class 12th.
A candidate must be a Graduate (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
