There has been a record sale of liquor in the country. According to the figures of the Excise Department, in the financial year 2023, 40 crore liquor boxes were sold. If we look at the bottle then 475 crore (4,750,000,000) bottles (750 ml) were sold. There is a jump of about 12 per cent in the sale of liquor as compared to the last financial year. In the last financial year, 3.95 crore liquor boxes were sold.
Whiskey was in high demand among drinkers. Whiskey remained by far the largest category in total alcohol sales, with whiskey accounting for two-thirds of total spirits demand. Due to this, there was a jump of 11.4% in the sale of whiskey as compared to last year. Brandy contributed 21% and rum 12% of the total liquor sales. According to excise data, Vodka registered a 29% and Gin sales growth of 61%.
