International Beer Day (IBD) is a celebration on the first Friday of every August founded in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California by Jesse Avshalomov. Since its inception, International Beer Day has grown from a small localized event in the western United States into a worldwide celebration spanning 207 cities, 80 countries and 6 continents.

Why is International Beer day celebrated?

Specifically, International Beer Day has three declared purposes:

1. To gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer.

2. To celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer.

3. To unite the world under the banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day.

Who doesn’t like having a chilled beer after a long day of tiresome work? Beer has continued to be a favourite drink for ages. Be it the young adults or the mature population, it’s hard to find people saying ‘no’ to a bottle of chilled beer. As International Beer Day is just around the corner, here are some facts about your favourite party drink that you might didn’t know about.

How is it celebrated?

The participants exchange beer with one another and buy each other drinks to express gratitude towards the bartenders, brewers and other beer technicians.

History of Beer

Did you know that beer is one of the oldest drinks humans have produced? The first chemically confirmed barley beer dates back to the 5th millennium BC in Iran, and was recorded in the written history of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia and spread throughout the world. WOW!

Wait there’s more. In Mesopotamia, the oldest proof of beer is considered to be a 6000-year-old Sumerian tablet in portraying people consuming drink-through reed straws from a communal bowl. Not only that, 3,900-year-old Sumerian poetry honouring Ninkasi, the patron goddess of brewing, contained the oldest surviving beer recipe. The recipe described the production of beer from bread made from barley.

In India, beer has been produced from rice since the Rig Vedic times. This drink has gained huge popularity among modern Indians. A party without beer has become almost unimaginable.
