International Emmys 2023: Indian comedian, actor, and musician, Vir Das has won an Emmy Award in Comedy for his Netflix special Vir Das: Landing. Ekta Kapoor, Shefali Shah, and Jim Sarbh were also in New York attending the awards.

Expressing his gratitude and excitement, Das tweeted an image of him holding the Emmys and wrote “For India, For Indian Comedy.”
The award had been a second nomination and first win for the comedian at the Emmys. His achievement made him the first Indian Comedian to bring home an Emmy under the ‘Comedy’ genre underscoring his prowess in the art of comic story-telling with an oration that has enchanted not just the country but an entire global audience.

Ekta Kapoor was also praised for her ‘trailblazing career and impact on the Indian television landscape’ for which she triumphed the Directorate Award.

Ekta Kapoor has been ruling the Indian Television space since 1995 with her debut show Mano Ya Na Mano under the Balaji banner and has ventured into the OTT realm as well with AltBalaji.
She was also honored with a Padma Shri in 2020 for her achievements in the field of arts.
Kapoor shared her thrill of winning on winning an Emmy on an Instagram post, with a caption saying “ Indian I’m bringing home YOUR Emmy.”
Shefali Shah was nominated for the Emmy in the Best Actress category for her enticing performance in the Netflix crime series Delhi Crime. However, she missed bagging the laurel from Karla Souza who received the award for her performance in Dive.

The Made in Heaven actor also holds a place of nomination in the best actor category for his part in the biopic Rocket Boys. He lost to Martin Freeman for The Responder.
The four popular names from the Indian Film and Television industry had represented the country on the international stage in each of their forte of strength. Vir Das’s win has marked a monumental moment for the comedy genre in the country, and Indian Representation in comedy at a global pedestal, Ekta Kapoor’s accomplishment is a noteworthy mention of Indian Soap shows, and Jim Sarbh and Shefali Shah’s nomination remarks the excellent work done by Indian actors.
