IPL 2022: Biography of the chairman and other members of the governing council of the Indian Premier League

TATA IPL 2022 will start from March 26 with 3 times ipl champion Chennai Super Kings versus Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The IPL governing council has allowed the fans to witness the match from the stadiums. But who are the members of the IPL Governing council. Let’s take a look at the biography of these members.

Members of IPL Governing council

1. Mr. Brijesh Patel, Chairman

Brijesh Patel is a former Indian cricketer who played for the Indian national cricket team as a right-handed batsman from 1974 until 1979. He grew up in Bangalore. He played in 21 test matches from 1974 to 1977, and sustained a batting average of 29.45. He was also a bowler, but was never asked to deliver his right-arm off breaks for his national team. His highest test score was 115 not out. He has a record of being a player who has never gone for a duck.

Brijesh Patel was appointed the Director of the National Cricket Academy in India until he was replaced in 2005. Brijesh Patel has also been the Hon. Secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) since 1999 and controls cricket in Karnataka. Some years ago he was also the Chairman of the National Selection Committee for the Indian national team.

Brijesh Patel runs a private cricket coaching academy in Bangalore called B.P.C.A. (Brijesh Patel Cricket Academy).

2. Mr. Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI, Member

Jay Amitbhai Shah is an Indian businessman and cricket administrator. He became the Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary in 2019. He is also the president of Asian Cricket Council. He is the son of Amit Shah, India's Minister of Home Affairs.

He graduated from Nirmala University with a B.Tech. He underwent cricket training in Ahmedabad under Jayendra Sehgal. He was elected as the joint secretary of GCI in 2013. The most significant project that he headed during his term as the GCA Joint Secretary was the construction of the world’s largest cricket arena, Narendra Modi Stadium.

In September 2019, Jay Shah stepped down from the position of GCI joint secretary. After a month, he was elected as the secretary of the BCCI. He was the youngest administrator ever to take charge as BCCI secretary. In December 2019, the BCCI selected Shah as its representative for future CEC meetings of the International Cricket Council. In January 2021, Asian Cricket Council appointed Shah as President.

3. Mr. Arun Singh Dhumal, Honorary Treasurer, BCCI

Arun Dhumal, younger brother of former BCCI president and current MoS (finance) Anurag Thakur was elected president of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA). 

4. Mr. M Khairul Jamal Majumdar, Member

M Khairul Jamal Majumdar is a part of Cricket Association of Mizoram and is also a part of the IPL Governing Council. Majumdar is a debutant in the administration of BCCI.

 

5. Mr. Pragyan Ojha, Member (ICA representative)

Pragyan Ojha is an Indian former cricketer, who represented India in Test, ODIs and T20. He is an attacking slow left arm orthodox bowler and left-hand tail-ender batsman. He has achieved World no 5 as his career best ranking in ICC Player Rankings. He is the first and one of the two spinners to ever win the Purple Cap in the Indian Premier League.

On 21 February 2020, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He played 48 international matches - 24 Tests, 18 ODIs and 6 T20Is - from 2008 to 2013. In his last game for India, a Test against West Indies in 2013, which was Sachin Tendulkar's farewell match, he finished with match figures of 10 for 89 and was named the Man of the Match. 

The Indian Cricketers Association nominated Pragyan Ojha as its representative to the Indian Premier League Governing Council.

6. Mr. CM Sane, CAG Nominee, Member

C. M. Sane is a Commerce graduate and has completed Post Graduate Diploma in Management. He has worked in various offices in the Indian Audit & Accounts Department in the fields of Accounts & Entitlements, such as, Civil, Revenue Audit, and Audit of the Defence sector.  He was on deputation to the Department of Atomic Energy and has also worked as Joint Secretary (Finance) in the Department of Space.
