Israel-Hamas War: The United Nations has released a new study outlining the severe destruction caused by Israeli attacks in Gaza. According to the research, Gaza's infrastructure has been severely damaged, reversing progress by an estimated seven decades. Approximately 60% of Gaza's area and 57% of its agricultural land have been damaged, with the cost of reconstruction estimated at more than $18.5 billion. Approximately 67% of water and safety facilities have been damaged, as have 92.9% of energy supplies. This damage has had a devastating impact on Gaza’s population, with over 743,000 people displaced and an estimated 74.3% increase in poverty by 2024, affecting over 4.1 million people. Furthermore, if current trends continue, unemployment is expected to reach 49.9%.
The most recent conflict occurred on October 7, 2023, after Hamas launched an attack that killed over 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped 250 others. In response, Israel conducted a massive military assault against Hamas in Gaza, resulting in over 42,000 alleged Palestinian deaths. The World Health Organization reports that Gaza’s health facilities have also been disproportionately targeted, hindering attempts to alleviate food, water, and fuel shortages. Israel has expanded military operations into southern Lebanon, where an airstrike purportedly targeted Hezbollah's installations, killing three journalists and five Israeli soldiers in separate attacks. The battle has escalated, with the Israeli Prime Minister declaring that Mossad will spearhead additional intelligence initiatives.
