Shocking News:  Have you ever counted the number of biscuits you get in a packet while eating? Ever thought you could get Rs 1 lakh if you have one biscuit less in the packet? A similar instance has been reported in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvalluvar when a biscuit company had to compensate a customer Rs 1 lakh since his biscuit packet included one less biscuit. ITC Limited Food Division was found guilty of suspected unfair commercial practices by the District Consumer Forum, leading to the fine.

Customer Demanded Rs 10 Cr Compensation

A consumer reported to the District Consumer Forum that the package of ITC’s Sunfeast Mary Light biscuits had one biscuit less than the quantity stated on the wrapper. In his complaint, the complainant alleged that there were only 15 biscuits within the packet, despite the fact that the packaging specified that it included 16 biscuits. The complaint imposed a Rs 100 crore penalty on the organisation and the biscuit company. He had sought Rs 10 crore in restitution for unfair trade practices and service reduction. However, the forum stated that the complainant’s demand was too high and directed that the company must pay the complaint Rs 1 lakh in compensation and Rs 10,000 legal fees.
