World Postal Day 2021:
Indian Postal Services (IPoS) is one of the broader networks involved in delivering mail (Posts), remitting money by money orders, accepting deposits under Small Saving Schemes, providing life insurance coverage under Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) and Postal Life Insurance (PLI), and providing retail services such as bill collection, sale of forms, among many other services.
So, this World Postal Day 2021, we will know more about ways on “How to join Indian Postal Services.”
India is divided into 23 postal circles, which are further divided into regions, and regions into further divisions, divisions also have sub-divisions. So, this large network is managed by a number of people employed at different job profiles.
The different job profiles under Indian Postal Services and their job responsibilities, eligibility criteria, etc. are:
One of the most competitive jobs under the Indian Postal Service, the Gramin Dak Sevak eligibility criteria is, a candidate is required to have passed Class 10th and have basic computer knowledge. The Gram Dak Sevak Age limit ranges from 18 years to 40 years. Candidates are selected as a Gram Dak Sevak on the basis of their Class 10th Merit Score.
Gramin Dak Sevak is also divided into four different job profiles, which are:
Branch Post Manager (BPM): A supervisory position in Indian Post, the BPM is responsible to take care of the entire Gram Panchayat postal works.
Mail Deliverer (MD): BPM handovers the mails to the mail deliverer, who further distributes mail to the end-user/ general public.
Mail Carrier/Collector: A Mail carrier carries mail bags from the account post to the branch post office and mailbag from the branch post office to the accounting office. However, sometimes, a Mail Carrier may also work as a Mail Deliverer.
Packer: The Packer packs and opens mailbags and distributes parcels to MD and MC accordingly.
Multi-tasking Staff is responsible for miscellaneous duties in the post office, as they don’t have any defined roles, and perform different duties when required. The Age limit for Multi-Tasking Staff in Indian Postal Service is, from 18 to 25 years, however, there is also age relaxation for OBC, SC/ST, and PH candidates. Multi-Tasking Staff Eligibility Criteria is that a candidate must have passed Class 10th / shall have cleared ITI from a recognized institution.
While the candidates are selected to Multi-tasking staff on the basis of merit list.
A postman delivers mails, parcel posts to residences and businesses, and collects signatures from the recipients. To become a postman, age limit is from 18 to 27 years of age. The Postman eligibility criteria required a person to clear Class 10th from a recognized institute or equivalent. The candidates for the post of Postman are selected on the basis of their 10th merit score.
Much similar to the postman, a Mail guard is required to check and collect bags from sorting offices and deliver them to post offices in early hours and vice versa. To become a Mail Guard, age limit is from 18 to 27 years of age. The Mail Guard eligibility criteria required a person to clear Class 10th from a recognized institute or equivalent. The candidates for the post of Mail Guard are selected on the basis of their 10th merit score.
A Postal Assistant is responsible to dispose of mails and maintaining the data, while a Postal Assistant is also required to provide customer support. To become a Postal Assistant, age limit is from 18 to 27 years of age. The Mail Guard eligibility criteria required a person to clear Class 12th from a recognized institute or equivalent. The candidates for the post of Mail Guard are selected on the basis of a three-tier selection process of SSC CGL, that involves:
Tier-1: Objective Online Exam
Tier-2: Descriptive Exam
Tier-3: Skill Test /Data Entry Test
