Gaslight Movie Review: Sara Ali Khan and Vikrant Massey thriller is a one-time watch

This unexpected trio of Sara Ali Khan, Vikrant Massey and Chitrangda Singh was not the best, but it was decent to watch them. However, the film demonstrates that this exhilarating combination of the greatest parts can’t produce an edge-of-your-seat thriller.

Gaslight Review

Sara Ali Khan portrays ‘Rajkumari’ Misha, who returns to the Mayagarh castle 15 years after a horrific event involving her mother Gayathri. Ratan Singh Gaikwad, her ‘dataa’ (father), is now married to homewrecker Rukmini, played by Chitrangda Singh. Meesha is convinced that something dreadful has happened to her dataa after a series of odd occurrences. Vikrant Massey’s Kapil, Raja Saheb’s trusted aide, assists the princess in her search for the truth. The team then goes on to uncover terrible truths concerning Rani Sa Rukmini, Superintendent of Police Ashok Tanwar (played by Rahul Dev), and Akshay Oberoi’s Rana Jai Singh.

Following numerous additional killings, some gasp-inducing events, and a somewhat expected twist, the most shocking narrative twist revels, leaving you perplexed and torn.

All of this might have been done and portrayed quite cleverly, but Pavan Kripalani doesn’t appear to make much of an effort. Gaslight employs done-to-death cliches to terrify you or establish a mystery surrounding a murder, but nothing can keep you from falling apart. Rahul Dharuman’s cinematography is distracting at moments, making things appear darker than they are.

Gaslight highlight

Perhaps the largest factor in the success of the horror component of the movie is Gujarat’s Wankaner Palace. Even though Sara is the main character, Vikrant and Chitrangda are brilliant throughout. This mystery thriller is at most an acceptable one-time movie due to a predictable twist and cliche royal intrigues. Once all is said and done, the final twist is what makes this movie feel worthwhile.

But, somethings were left on the audience like, for wxample, when one of the movie’s main mysteries is explained, the audience is curious as to why and how it happened. But got nothing.

The psycho-thriller subgenre is most recognised for being mastered by director Pavan Kirpalani. Even if Gaslight isn’t considered one of his finest pieces, he deserves praise for attempting to master such a challenging genre.
