Krafton, the South Korean gaming industry and the makers of iconic esports titles like PUBG and BGMI, has pledged to invest millions into India's gaming and esports arena. This significant move follows the imposition of heavy taxes on the online gaming sector by the Indian government, posing a potential challenge to its booming growth. BGMI's creator, Krafton, has announced a huge investment of $150 million for India's gaming sector over the forthcoming two to three years. Deets inside.
The company in a statement claimed that the gaming firm decided to invest in the Indian esports landscape after witnessing a huge potential and growth in the recent years. The company also mentioned that it will focus more on content based platforms and strongly believes in the power of Indian IP’s.
Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO, Krafton India said “We firmly believe in India’s potential as a key player in the global gaming and technology industry, and our commitment to invest an additional $150 million over the next two to three years reflects our dedication to fueling this growth”
With this announcement Krafton’s total investment in India climbs up to $290 Million. This includes $140 Million invested in 11 startups in the country during 2021.The gaming firm stated “We believe in the power of Indian IPs and content in making a lasting global impact”
Apart from BGMI, the South Korean gaming firm has launched additional esports titles including Callisto Protocol, Road To Valor: Empires, and Defense Derby. A PVP strategy game called Road to Valour allows players to defeat their rivals by building armies from several factions.
