Year Ender 2024: The year 2024 has been a mixed bag for the cinemagoers. Films with the highest expectations fell flat on face, whereas small-budget films with no superstars of the industry surprisingly hit a chord with the audience for their refreshing and resonating content. As the year comes to an end, it is time to revisit some of the most popular films of 2024 that were made on a rather small budget.

Laapataa Ladies

Kiran Rao made her debut as a director with a quirky tale of two lost ladies. Laapataa Ladies was a minty watch with two new actors - Pratibha Ranta and Nitanshi Goel introduced, with another fairly young actor- Sparsh Shrivastava is mostly known for his web presence.

The film made on a modest budget of Rs. 4 crore made an earning of Rs. 21 crore at the box office. Its popularity however has been beyond numbers. The web release of the film on Netflix further escalated its buzz of a heartfelt plot told with simplicity and satire.

Kill

Action in Bollywood had turned dull and customary with flying cards and close shots of the actor’s unattainable physique until Kill was released in theater as a new chapter in the action genre of the Hindi film.

Marking the Bollywood debut of Laksya Lalwani, Raghav Juyal’s debut as a villain, and Tanya Maniktala’s breakthrough, Kill is the directorial genius of Nikhil Nagesh Bhat who marketed the film as ‘India’s Most Violent Film’ for all the right reasons as the ones who have watched it will corroborate.

The film’s budget was Rs. 15 crore and it earned an estimated Rs. 45 crore. The OTT release of the film further solidified its popularity.

Munjya

India’s first film with a full feature CGI character ‘Munjya’ produced by Maddock Film starring debutant Abhay Verma and Sharvari. The film was loved for its unique plot inspired by folklore and turned out to be a major family entertainer. The film was made on a budget of Rs. 30 crore and earned a gross of Rs. 130 crore.

Article 370

Yami Gautam’s Article 370 hailed from a different genre altogether on the list. The film was made on an approximate budget of Rs. 20 crore and had a worldwide collection of 105 crore.

The year 2024 reclaimed the truth of content being the king that reigns supremacy and makes figures on the board and popularity.
