Lekha Washington Biography

Lekha Washington is an Indian actor, artist, and product designer born and brought up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She was born on 30 April 1984 to a Maharashtrian mother and a father of mixed ethnicity. Washington however considers herself truly South Indian with her roots in Chennai with a Marathi mother.

Lekha is a talented artist wearing many hats. An actor, sculptor, product designer, and stage artist, she works primarily in Tamil and Telugu cinema. She is a graduate of fine arts from Stella Maris College in Chennai and honed her product design skills in a course on Lifestyle Product Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. From the same institute, she learned Film and Video Communication. As an actor, she has movies credited to her name in Bollywood as well.

Fame and recognition dawned on her first with her stage plays, and product designs followed by acting opportunities. ‘Exhibition A’ her maiden as a sculptor made its way to the headline of ‘The Hindu’ gaining critical appraisal for her work.

As a student of film and video communication, she decided to step in front of the camera, landing an appearance in an English experimental film ‘Framed’ by Chetan Shah, followed by an opportunity to be the music video jockey for SS Music.
