Manipur Violence: Large-scale violence erupted in the state of Manipur on Saturday, nearly four months later. The central government has issued guidelines allowing people to move unrestricted between areas. A day before, members of the Kuki village protested the government’s decision. In the uproar, 27 security guards were injured. So far, one individual has been reported dead.
The Manipur Center’s decision regarding ‘free movement’ was to be implemented on March 8. In protest, members of the Kuki community gathered on the streets of Kangpokpi area and attempted to stop the movement of buses. Kangpokpi district is dominated by the Kuki community. The protesters tried to stop a state transport bus traveling from Imphal to Senapati district as part of the administration's efforts to ensure ‘free movement’. Police reported disputes with security officers in Gamgiphai, Motbung, and Keethelmanbi.
