Merry Christmas Movie Review: When it comes to gripping cinematic action-thrillers, Sriram Raghavan tops the charts with his intriguing storytelling with gripping scenes. Taking Badlapur as an example, Sriram transformed the peppy Varun Dhawan into a vengeful person bruised by the murder of his family. This time, the story is set in a festive background of Christmas starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, anticipating the suspenseful events happening in these two strangers’ lives as they unfold mysteries on Christmas Eve and share stories filled with disheartened love and melancholy, with a slow burn lingering in their mind and body.
After almost five years since his last directorial ‘Andhadhun’ hit theatres with the same thrill amongst fans, Sriram Raghavan has once again wrapped the audience in this nail-biting movie based on the popular French writer Frederic Dard’s novel ‘Bird In A Cage’. Albert (Vijay Sethupathi) who is still mourning the death of his mother, just returned to Bombay (Mumbai) after a long time. While overcoming his grief with the festive spirit of Christmas, he comes across Maria (Katrina Kaif) and her daughter, along with a big teddy bear. The absence of the father makes Albert suspicious and decides to take a chance. As he dives more into Maria’s life to unravel the mystery, he finds himself digging deeper into the dark secrets with a chronology of events happening around Maria.
‘Merry Christmas’ was shot simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil, featuring a fantastic cast including Ashwini Kalsekar and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles. Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kazmi, and Tinnu Anand have played prominent roles in the Hindi version. On the very first day of its release, the movie is in talks to release on OTT platform Netflix soon.
Sriram Raghavan has once again left us on the edge of our seats with an intense darkness of mystery and suspense. The movie will leave your mind full of thoughts and try to analyse every scene and its connection with one another. Unlike Andhadhun, the movie however lacks that intensity and overwhelming emotions that could have given it an upper hand. All said and done, Merry Christmas is a must-watch movie if you like some suspense and mystery and follow Sriram’s spectacular genre of compelling masterpieces.
