X Met Gala 2025: Androgynous Outfits To Cummerbund, Emerging Trends From ‘Fashion’s Biggest Night’

Met Gala 2025: The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City hosted guests from every field across the globe for a night of immaculate fashion and fun on Monday. Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan and pop sensation Rihanna were in attendance at the ‘fashion’s biggest night’ to have a chokehold on fashion fans.

In tune with the theme for this year, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” stars put their best foot forward in outfits inspired by black Dandyism, for the dress code “Tailored For You”.

Each artist brought a special piece on the ‘blue carpet’, adding a touch of themselves to their outfits. Yet, most stars followed a memo that showed what would dominate the emerging trends for the year.

So let us take you into the top emerging trends that we could spot at the Met Gala, as it is officially wrapped now.

Androgynous Fashion

We are well past the age when fashion was gendered. Androgyny is the biggest emerging trend from the Met this year, as corroborated by the theme itself that exclusively focuses on men’s fashion. Madonna, Mindi Kaling, Janelle Monáe, and Isha Ambani were among some of the best androgynous looks of the night.

Accessorization

A major theme that followed through the majority of outfit reveals was the heavy use of statement accessories along with dainty pieces stacked together to add the element of camp to the looks. From Shah Rukh Khan’s stacked pendants with a dramatic ‘K’ necklace at the center, the stack of rings in his hands, to Diljit Dosanjh's neckpiece inspired by the Patiala necklace, stacked jewels have proved that they are here to stay.

aunted by Priyanka Chopra Jonas with her Polka dot cinch waist gown.

So chunky bold pendants, and stacks of necklaces and rings are surely a hit trend to come out of the Met Gala.

Cummerbund

From Shah Rukh Khan, Sabyasachi Mukherjee to Nick Jonas and Ryan Coogler, many men walked the carpet looking dapper with a fine, wide, pleated silk sash on their waist called the Cummerbund.

A relic from the British Era, usually worn with dinner jackets or tuxedos, the cummerbund made a comeback at the Met with long coats, jackets, and monotonous shirts. Men must take notes on what they need to add to their next fine draping ensemble.

Patterns

Desi Girl Priyanka’s Polka Dot gown, Colman Domingo’s all-Valentino second look, Natasha Poonawala’s Gara embroidery ensemble, and Doja Cat’s tuxedo-style bodysuit had one thing in common, which was the patterns. From polka dots to pinstripes, patterns are poised to make a comeback with a bang in fashion, as per Met.

Cinch Waist & Tailored Pieces

We all saw the resurgence of baggy clothes, cargo pants, oversized t-shirts, flannels, and jackets thanks to the laid-back fashion adored by the Gen Z. But the Met suggests it is time for them to take a backseat as cinch waist and tailored pieces make a comeback with a focus on ‘superfine tailoring’ and snatched-looking outfits.
