Mission Raniganj Review: Akshay Kumar Perfectly Portrays the Glorious Story of Jaswant Singh Gill

Mission Raniganj Review:  No one can replace Bollywood’s Khiladi Akshay Kumar when it comes to narrating the untold story of India’s unsung heroes, and fans surely enjoy the way he takes the real-life scenarios to big screens and makes them reach the maximum audience. Be it Padman, Airlift, Kesari, Gold, Akshay has always made sure to let the world know about the real-life heroes that made every Indian’s heart swell with pride. Talking about his latest film Mission Raniganj, the actor has added one more movie to his collection of “Real Heroes of India” and the film has received a positive response from the viewers. The movie is based on the infamous Coal Incident that occurred in 1989, where a coal mine got flooded with water and the life of 65 miners were stuck in the coal, fighting for their lives, when one of the team Officers Jaswant Singh Gill took the initiative of saving the miners.

Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue Story

The story revolves around the November 13, 1989 tragedy at the Mahabir colliery in Raniganj, when 232 workers were working in the night shift to extract coal through explosions in the 320-foot-deep mine. Suddenly, an unexpected rush of water at 4 a.m., caused the mine to overflow. The 161 miners who were close to the lift area in the pit could be rescued promptly, while 71 were further away and couldn’t reach the lift owing to the water. A message was transmitted by phone saying 65 miners had found refuge at a rising area of the pit, but six of them had gone missing.

When all other techniques were failing to save the trapped miners, engineer Jaswant Singh Gill (played by Akshay Kumar) proposed the Capsule Method, which involved digging a hole and launching a specially designed rescue capsule. The film depicts how, when the life of 65 miners was hanging as time passed, Gill and his team of skilled and courageous professionals rescued all 65 miners one by one using the ingenious capsule despite having a lack of machinery equipment and the corrupt-driven system.

The film also emphasise how the labour class in India gets treated and lives a miserable life in the cobweb of corruption and the vicious circle of the entire system. Overall, the movie is a perfect depiction of the brief occurrences during the tragic Coal Incident in 1989, and how Jaswant Gill came out as the hero who saved the miners with his Capsule Method. However, the movie has clearly narrated the only purpose of the film, recreating the Mahabir Colliery incident. The movie didn’t dig deep into the life of Jaswant Singh Gill but only highlighted how he got the name “Capsule Man” by this incident. Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, the movie stars Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, Ravi Kishan, Kumud Mishra, and others in lead roles.
