Mohan Bhagwat Biography: Everything to know about RSS Chief; age, family, ideology, and more

RSS Cheif: Mohan Madhukar Rao Bhagwat is a name widely known for becoming the youngest and current leader of the world’s largest far-right volunteer-led organization, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh or the National Volunteer Organisation. Bhagwat has been handling the reign of the organization since 2009 and has been in the news for several diverse reasons ranging from his ideas and actions on the national front.  

Early Life & Education 

Coming from a family of RSS activists, Bhagwat himself trod on the path of his family. He was born on 11 September 1950 in Chandrapur, to Madhukar Rao Bhagwat, and Malati, the secretary of Chandarpur zone and a member of the RSS women’s wing respectively.

Bhagwat is a veterinarian by education. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry from Government Veterinary College, Nagpur. His zeal to work as a full-time promoter and worker of the RSS led him to put a full stop to his further education and profession as a vet. He was a part of the RSS by the end of 1975. 

Journey with the RSS 

In 1975, he partook in the RSS exercises implicitly until he became a Pracharak or full-time worker of the Sangh in Akola City, Maharashtra by 1997.

From 1991 to 1999 he took the role of Akhil Bhartiya Shahririk Pramukh aka in-charge of Physical Training, from where he was promoted as the full-time In-charge of RSS volunteers, in India. 

In March 2009, he assumed leadership of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, succeeding K. S. Sudarshan. Following K. B. Hedgewar and M.S. Golwalkar, he stands among the organization's youngest leaders.

Bhawat was given Z+ VVIP security cover in June 2015, making him one of the most protected Indians with protection from the perceived threat of multiple terrorist organizations. 

Ideologies 

Despite calling themselves a Nationalist organization, the ideology of RSS inclines towards the far right, advocating for a Hindu nation under the banner of Hindutva.  Addressing the people Bhagwant too once said, ‘Hinduism is the only true religion.’
