Mohan Charan Majhi Bio: Prominent Tribal leader of Odisha and four-time MLA Mohan Charan Majhi will be the new Chief Minister of Odisha. Mohan Charan Manjhi defeated Biju Janata Dal’s Mina Majhi and Congress’ Prativa Manjari Naik and won the election for the Keonjhar Assembly seat by over 11,000 votes. The BJP won 78 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly, while the BJD received 51. The oath-taking ceremony was held on 12 June at 5 pm, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries. The appointment of Mohan Charan Majhi as the New Odisha CM can be seen as a significant achievement as Majhi broke the 24-year-old record of Naveen Patnaik, who served as Odisha's Prime Minister for over two decades.

Mohan Charan Majhi was born in Keonjhar, Odisha, in 1972. His father, Gunaram Majhi, was a watchman. Majhi completed higher secondary school at Jhumpura High School in 1987 and Class 12 at Anadapur College in 1990. He earned a BA from Chandra Sekhar College in Champua, Keonjhar, and an LLB from Dhenkanal Law College.
Majhi initially started as a teacher at the Jhumpura Saraswati Shishu Mandir, which is part of a network of schools run by the RSS’s educational wing Vidya Bharti. He worked as a Sarapanch from 1997 to 2000 before being elected to the assembly. In addition, he served on the Standing Committee of S.C. and S.T. under the ORV Act. Majhi also served as the secretary of the State Adivasi Morcha (BJP).

Majhi was elected to the Assembly for the first time in 2000 and re-elected in 2004, serving as Deputy Chief Whip in the BJD-BJP coalition government from 2005 until 2009. Majhi lost elections in 2009 and 2014 but came back in 2019 to defeat Keonjhar for a third term. Majhi was appointed chief whip of the BJP after it emerged as the main opposition party.
When the party ran Majhi again in the 2024 assembly election, he won the Keonjhar seat. Majhi will be the first Chief Minister of Keonjhar. Majhi will have two deputies: K V Singh Deo, a six-time legislator, and Pravati Parida, a first-timer.
Mohan Charan Majhi is considered a young leader. At the age of 52, he will become Odisha’s new chief minister. He won his first assembly election at the age of 26 in 2000 when the BJP and BJD formed an alliance.
