Mounjaro Medicine: Everything You Need to Know About Eli Lilly’s Weight Loss Drug

23 Mar, 2025

Weight Loss Medicine: Mounjaro, a new drug launched by Eli Lilly Company, has emerged as an effective treatment for weight loss and type 2 diabetes. Scientifically known as Deptide, this medication works by activating the GIP (Glucose-Dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide) and GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) receptors. These endogenous incretin hormones regulate glucose and insulin levels, lower blood sugar, and limit your appetite. It has been approved by the Central Drug Standards Control Organization (CDSCO) and has shown great success, with some patients shedding more than 50 kg in nine months.

Mounjaro Medicine in India

Monjaro is given weekly via subcutaneous injection, starting with a dose of 2.5 mg and subsequently increasing to a maximum of 15 mg per week based on medical guidance. In India, a 2.5 mg vial costs Rs 3,500, and a 5 mg vial costs Rs 4,375. Though generally well tolerated, potential adverse effects include mild nausea and constipation, with rare cases of serious complications like pancreatic inflammation. Given India's expanding diabetes prevalence, which now numbers over 101 million people, Monjaro’s availability could be a big step forward in disease management. However, medical advice is required before use to guarantee the safety and compatibility of particular patients.
