Nagpur Violence: A treason charge has been filed against six accused, including mastermind Faheem Khan, in connection with the March 17 violence in Nagpur over the relocation of Aurangzeb’s tomb. Faheem Khan is accused of gathering a crowd and provoking violence. So far, the police have arrested 84 people, including 8 Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers, and 19 suspects have been held in police custody till March 21. At the same time, the curfew in the violence-hit areas of Kapilvan and Nandangarh has been lifted after three days.
The cyber division has taken action against 34 social media accounts for spreading misinformation and instigating violence, with 10 FIRs filed. The police stated that they received a threat from a user on a social media post claiming the riot was a minor incident and that larger riots would occur in the future. The violence on Monday night injured 33 police officers, including three DCPs. The protesters destroyed vehicles, attacked with petrol bombs, threw stones, and also destroyed many houses.
