Blood Test That Can Detect Breast Cancer, Available in India Now

We all know that early detection of cancer is critical. Apollo Cancer Centres has developed a blood test that can detect early-stage breast cancer in asymptomatic patients. The EasyCheck Breast test will set you back Rs 6,000.

The blood test employs Datar Cancer Genetics technology to detect circulating tumour cells and clusters specific to breast cancer with high accuracy.

Clinical trial data show that it can detect stage 0 and stage 1 breast cancers with greater than 99 percent accuracy and no false positives.

The test requires only 5 mL of blood and is safer than mammography because there is no radiation exposure.

Monkeypox Declared Pandemic by World Health Network

After more than 3400 cases were reported across 58 countries, the World Health Organization declared the monkeypox outbreak a pandemic. The World Health Network, or WHN, is a scientific coalition formed in response to the Covid-19 threat.

According to the World Health Organization, even though the death rates are much lower than for smallpox, millions of people will die and many more will become blind or disabled unless action is taken to stop the spread.

The World Health Organization has also requested that the monkeypox outbreak be declared a public health emergency of international concern. It also served as a reminder to WHO of what happened when the organisation failed to declare Covid-19 a pandemic in early January 2020.

The purpose of declaring the monkeypox outbreak a pandemic is to focus global attention on containing the outbreak.

Cancer Cells Attack You Faster While You Are Sleeping

According to a new study, cancer cells are more likely to attack at night than during the day. Tumor cells frequently jump into blood vessels, where they travel and nest in other organs, giving rise to new tumours, according to experts at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. This is known as metastasis, and it is the cause of nine out of ten cancer deaths. For the study, researchers collected blood from 30 women hospitalized with breast cancer, once at 4 a.m. and again at 10 a.m. They discovered that nearly 80% of the circulating tumour cells in blood samples appeared at 4 a.m., when the patients were sleeping. According to experts, the study does not imply that you should sleep less; rather, "it simply means that these cells prefer a specific phase of the 24-hour cycle to enter the bloodstream." This research advances our understanding of metastasis.

Non-Traditional Pet Owners More Likely to Catch Zoonotic Diseases

People who keep pets such as guinea pigs, fish, and snakes are more likely to be exposed to zoonotic pathogens, which are disease-causing bacteria or viruses.

According to a study published in the journal Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases, non-traditional pets such as rodents, poultry, and reptiles can often appear healthy while carrying zoonotic pathogens, putting pet owners at risk.

In fact, while most pathogens do not cause illness in their animal hosts, they can be transmitted to humans through direct or indirect animal contact. Non-rodent mammals such as hedgehogs and ferrets, as well as amphibians and other aquatic species, are among the other animal species.
