Sitting Too Much Is Bad for Your Health: Study


We all know that sedentary lifestyles are bad for our health. However, a new Simon Fraser University study specifically mentions how many hours of sitting in one place puts you at what health risk.

The study followed 1 lakh people in 21 countries for an average of 11 years.

According to the study, people who sit for more than eight hours a day are more likely to have heart attacks and strokes, which can lead to death.

When compared to people who sit less than 4 hours per day, sitting for 6 to 8 hours per day increases the risk of heart disease and premature death by 12 to 13%.

People who sat for more than 8 hours had a 20% increased risk of dying prematurely.

According to the study, if you sit for more than four hours a day, replacing a half-hour of sitting with exercise can reduce your risk by 2%.

According to the study, a combination of lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle accounted for 8.8 percent of all deaths, which is comparable to smoking. (That is, 10.6 percent).

So, if you want to avoid health complications, get out of your chair as much as you can, stretch a little, walk a little, take the stairs, and do moderate exercise.
